The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new facility that allows Aadhaar holders to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The service came into effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain free of cost for six months, making Aadhaar updates more convenient and accessible for residents.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening digital communication with Aadhaar holders by enabling them to receive authentication alerts, service updates, and other important notifications via email. It also supports the Government’s Digital India vision by promoting secure, paperless and citizen-centric digital services.
According to UIDAI, the response to the new facility has been encouraging, with over 2.5 lakh residents updating their email IDs within the first two days of the feature’s rollout. The authority expects the initiative to improve user convenience while enhancing transparency and security in Aadhaar-related services.
