Named ‘Akshay’, meaning Indestructible, the vessel symbolises the Coast Guard’s resilience and commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests. Designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, the ship reflects the government’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
ICGS Akshay is equipped to undertake a wide range of missions, including maritime law enforcement, coastal security, search and rescue operations, marine environmental protection, and assistance to mariners in distress, thereby enhancing the operational capability of the Bharatiya Tatrakshak.
The vessel was commissioned by Parama Sen in the presence of Bhisham Sharma, Jyotindra Singh, senior government officials, and representatives of Goa Shipyard Limited.
Commanded by Deepak Choubey, ICGS Akshay will further strengthen India’s coastal surveillance and maritime security capabilities while reinforcing the country’s growing indigenous shipbuilding ecosystem.
