India to develop integrated transmitter and receiver modules for 6G and beyond


C-DOT, the premier telecom research and development center of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Government of India, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R) have collaborated to develop 140 GHz fully integrated transmitter and receiver modules for “6G and beyond”. Signed an agreement for. The agreement has been signed under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme of the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, to provide affordable telecommunications services to domestic companies and institutions involved in technology design, development, commercialization of telecom products and solutions in rural and remote areas. Designed to provide funding support to enable broadband and mobile services.

“The objective of this agreement is to develop 140 GHz fully integrated transmitter and receiver modules to enable applications in 6G and beyond. The novelty of this system lies in the generation, transmission and antenna integration of terahertz waveforms on a single chip; This results in reduction of system size, weight and power consumption, hence making it suitable for use in portable devices like smartphones, laptops etc. This chip will support data rates of up to several gigabytes per second, enabling high-speed data transfer within or between chips.

Center for Telecommunications Research and Development (C-DOT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee reiterated that the successful completion of this project will contribute to the development of next generation ultra-fast, low-latency 6G networks that will support various industries.
