NTPC Green Energy to set up India’s largest green hydrogen production center in Andhra Pradesh By Vijaypal Singh

NTPC Limited, a power sector public sector enterprise and India's largest integrated power company, has signed a land lease agreement to realize its green energy and green hydrogen objectives. In this way, it is also contributing to the efforts of the Government of India towards energy transformation. The agreement was signed on February 20, 2024 between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the construction of an “Integrated Green Hydrogen Centre”. The center will be constructed on 1,200 acres of land near Pudimadaka village in Achyutapuram mandal in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Center aims to create a world-class ecosystem for technologies in the new energy paradigm. These include electrolyzer and fuel cell manufacturing, related supporting industries and start-ups, incubation, testing facilities, production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol. The project involves the construction of India's largest green hydrogen production facility (1,200 tonnes per day). This will enable the conversion of green hydrogen into derivatives such as green ammonia and green methanol, which will primarily supply it to various export markets.
