The country’s first healthy and clean food street, ‘Prasadam’ started in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh




India's first health food street, Prasadam, was launched by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain city on Sunday. The food street at Neelkanth Van in Ujjain, Mahakal Lok, will be the first of 100 food streets that will be built in many districts across the country.

He, who inaugurated the food street with the Chief Minister, said the launch marks a significant progress in the country's journey towards healthy eating habits. “Prasadam will connect common citizens in every corner of the country with pure and safe local and traditional food,” Mandaviya said. The two leaders also launched several other projects including a 30-bed additional ward under the emergency Covid response package. The Health Minister said, to achieve the vision of 'Developed India', the citizens of the country must be healthy.

Later, he launched the official website for the Healthy and Hygienic Food Street initiative and unveiled a brochure outlining the standard operating procedures for these food centres. According to officials, financial assistance in the form of Rs 1 crore per food street in the ratio of 60:40 or 90:10 is being provided to states and UTs for this initiative to fill the critical gaps. . He said that with the condition that the standard branding of these food streets will be done as per FSSAI guidelines.

Spread over an area of 939 square metres, Prasadam, which will have 19 shops, has been developed at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore and will reportedly be fully functional by the first week of February. Additionally, it will provide convenient and culturally rich food options to the 1-1.5 lakh devotees visiting Mahakaleshwar Temple every day.
